About Jonah, and Why This Place Exists
I'm a thirty-something copywriter who writes slogans for a living and cannot write one decent sentence about myself on a dating profile. That irony has fed me for years. I started Thumb Tired Hearts after a particularly bleak evening in which I compared two men named Dan by their golf photos and realized I was not choosing a partner, I was auditing furniture.
The essays here are small, funny and mostly about me being wrong in public. They are for urban singles who are tired of the swipe, tired of the lecture about connection, and not even slightly tired of wanting someone to laugh with. If you came here to be told you are doing love incorrectly, wrong building. If you came to feel less alone in the doing, welcome, there's a spare stool.
Some pieces mention TheFriend, a place where you can chat with AI characters and watch short romance dramas. I'll always be clear about what it is: fictional, flirty company made of software, not people. I find it useful the way a rehearsal room is useful, and I'll tell you exactly how, without pretending it replaces a warm human hand on a Sunday morning.
